Open Access Policy

The Ibero-American Journal of Environment & Sustainability (RIAS) is a free open-access publication, with no economic or temporal restrictions for authors or readers. This policy gathers, in a single place, all the elements that define our open-access model.

1. Open Access Statement

RIAS declares that it complies with the definition of open access adopted by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ): copyright holders grant third parties permission to use the work through an open license (Creative Commons), which ensures free and immediate access to the work and allows any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full text of the articles, as well as index them and use them as data input for software or for any other lawful purpose.

2. No charges for authors or readers RIAS does not charge any fees: not for manuscript submission, peer review, editorial processing (APC), publication, or indexing. Access to published content is completely free for any reader, anywhere in the world, without the need for subscription, registration, or payment.

3. Immediate access, without embargo period

All articles are published in immediate open access from the moment of publication, without any embargo period or delay. There are no registration barriers to access the full text.

4. License and reuse rights

All RIAS content is published under the Creative Commons Attribution‑NonCommercial‑ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY‑NC‑SA 4.0), uniformly across the journal.

This license allows sharing (copying and redistributing the material in any medium or format) and adapting (remixing, transforming, and building upon the material) exclusively for non‑commercial purposes, provided that the following conditions are met:

  • Attribution: proper credit must be given.

  • NonCommercial: the material may not be used for commercial purposes.

  • ShareAlike: derivative works must be distributed under the same license.

5. Copyright ownership

Authors retain copyright of their works published in RIAS at all times. The journal does not require assignment or transfer of copyright as a condition for publication.

6. Self‑archiving policy

RIAS guarantees authors the right to self‑archive their published articles in institutional or thematic repositories, for non‑profit purposes, provided that:

  • The authors’ copyright is respected.

  • The integrity of the publication is preserved, including its full bibliographic reference and its electronic address (DOI/URL) of origin.

No embargo period is required for self‑archiving; it may be done immediately upon publication.

7. Interoperability and preservation

RIAS uses the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform with the OAI‑PMH 2.0 protocol to facilitate metadata harvesting by repositories and aggregators. Content is digitally preserved through PKP PN and LOCKSS.
