Abstract

The article was developed in the context of disaster risk management and the expected effects of global climate change, with the aim of identifying the aspects to be taken into consideration in the comprehensive assessment of climate and disaster risk. To do this, it comments on the impacts of natural hazards, with projections of the future climate. Recent literature related to risk management and assessment was reviewed, mainly the results of the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Strategic Framework 2022-2025 of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the ISO 14091:2021 standard on adaptation to climate change and guidelines on vulnerability, impacts and risk assessment. It is concluded that risks are the result of dynamic interactions between threats, their relationship with climate, exposure, vulnerability and sensitivity; climate change, along with other factors, is recognized as an important cause of increased risk. It indicates how climate and disaster risk management should be addressed, including the variables and their relationships for evaluation.
