Abstract

This work shows the results of the research carried out by a multidisciplinary group of specialists in a territory, with a view to evaluating its possible use for tourism purposes. When it was carried out, the territory already had the ordinance, since an environmental impact study had been carried out, which proposed, among other aspects, that the execution of the works proposed in the project was accepted. The problem was that, since it was an environmentally very fragile area, an environmental risk study was also required. The research methods used correspond to what has been approved in the country for such purposes, both by the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment and by the National Civil Defense Bodies, institutions that demand their strict compliance, and at the conclusion of the investigation It was evaluated and approved by specialists from these organizations. A Geographic Information System was used. The results obtained were relevant because, when the environmental risk study was carried out, it was shown that the project should not be carried out in said area, as it was very affected by climate change, specifically due to aspects related to the elevation of the average level from the sea and local flooding, due to the increase in heavy rains in an area that until the time of the study's execution had been burdened by a long period of extreme drought. The effects that climate change is causing to this region were also fully confirmed.
