Abstract

This study analyzes the relationship between environmental perception and citizen attitude in Concepción, Chile, as well as its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. Using a sequential approach and mixed methodologies, responses from 100 residents to in-person and online surveys were analyzed, using SPSS software for statistical analysis. It was observed that the surveyed population, mostly female, showed an intermediate to high environmental perception, with special emphasis on criticism regarding air quality and waste management; in addition to a proactive attitude towards climate change and environmental management. A significant correlation was found between environmental perception and contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially in issues of water, energy, sustainable cities, responsible consumption and climate action. The results underline the importance of awareness, citizen participation and environmental education to advance the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. It is recommended to strengthen environmental education and community participation to effectively face environmental challenges and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the commune.
