Editorial Policy
Open Access Policy
The Ibero-American Journal of Environment & Sustainability (RIAS) aims to facilitate academic cooperation based on the exchange and dissemination of impactful results generated through the scientific work of environmental collaboration networks, universities, research centers, and related institutions from both industrialized and developing countries, whose topics contribute to sustainability from various scientific fields.
This objective leads the Journal to promote the open access initiative, adopting it as its official publication policy. This implies not only free access for a diverse audience, but also transparency regarding the editorial management process, in order to build trust and loyalty among both authors and readers.
The journal guarantees the self-archiving of its published articles in non-profit institutional repositories, provided that, first, the authorship rights of each contributor are respected, and second, the integrity of the publication is maintained, including proper references and electronic access.
Plagiarism and Artificial Intelligence Use Policy
Anti-Plagiarism Tool
The Revista Iberoamericana Ambiente & Sustentabilidad (RIAS), in order to guarantee the originality of its articles, recognizes documents that are not unpublished, indicating their source.
iThenticate
The Journal verifies the authenticity of proposals submitted by authors using the anti-plagiarism program iThenticate. This system compares the content of manuscripts with information published on the Internet, printed sources, and its own archive, composed of articles and research from all academic levels. RIAS only accepts texts with up to 12% similarity.
Evaluation Criteria
Plagiarism is understood as the use of ideas, graphics, phrases, and paragraphs from published works without explicitly acknowledging authorship, differentiating the original work from the cited one. Plagiarism occurs when, intentionally or not, someone presents others' work as their own, which constitutes a serious breach of academic integrity and is not accepted by the journal. To ensure the truthfulness and reliability of manuscripts, the Editorial Board of the Revista Iberoamericana Ambiente & Sustentabilidad (RIAS) follows these criteria:
Analysis Criteria
To guarantee the authenticity and correct origin of information, acceptable similarity parameters and guidelines on the allowed percentage have been established. After manual review of the submitted document, it is verified that citations and texts are correctly referenced, or, if not, whether plagiarism actually exists; this judgment is made by the analysts or coordinators responsible for checking the manuscript.
Whenever high similarity percentages (above 16%) are detected, the editorial authorities are notified to make the appropriate decisions, ensuring optimal and real compliance in the manuscript's evaluation.
Use of Artificial Intelligence
RIAS's editorial policy on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) establishes clear guidelines for authors, reviewers, and editors. It is recognized that AI tools can be used to support writing, reviewing, and editing tasks, but they can never assume authorship or ethical or scientific responsibility. Authors must explicitly declare the use of AI, specifying the software, the functions applied, and the sections of the manuscript where it was used. Additionally, any content generated by AI must be carefully reviewed to avoid biases or errors. Reviewers and the editorial team must also declare their use of AI, ensuring that critical judgment and final decisions are made by humans. Misuse of these tools will be sanctioned according to COPE's ethical policies and those of the publisher. During the editorial process, the RIAS team will analyze the use of AI in the document, and if the value exceeds 12%, the article may be sent to the author for correction or withdrawn according to the generated report.
